Fantastic Inventions: Electricity from Firewood

American inventors designed and built a light, portable “burner” that runs on firewood and produces electricity.
BioLite is a small company founded in 2006 by two Americans, Jonathan and Alec, an engineer and a designer. Together, the inventors set themselves a noble goal: to create innovative gadgets with an alternative way of producing electricity.
The first prototypes were presented in 2008, but the revolutionary CampStove only reached the market in 2012. It is a portable wood stove that also works as a charger for gadgets. It was designed for developing countries (the first batches were shipped to India and Uganda), as well as for tourists and mountaineers.

In 2014 the project received more than 1 million dollars in investment. The money was spent on new inventions and improvements to the CampStove.
More recently, in 2017, CampStove 2 was presented to the world.
Interestingly, the device burns wood with a smokeless (!) fire on which food can be cooked. For example, a liter of water can be boiled on the CampStove 2 in 4.5 minutes.
A phone or any other gadget can be charged via the MicroUSB and USB ports. The device weighs only 935 grams in total, and its battery capacity is 2600 mAh.
